چکیده

A graph G is a Unit Disk (UD) graph if there is an assignment of unit disks centered at its vertices such that there is an edge in G iff the corresponding unit disks intersect. The square G of G is defined as a graph on the same vertex set as G and having edges between pairs of vertices with graph distance at most two in G. Our results on the chromatic number of G are motivated by an application for wireless sensor networks. Namely, if G, an UD, is an underlying graph of a wireless sensor network, the square of G, G, reflects possible conflicts in transmission between sensors in the network. An upper bound on the chromatic number of G implies directly an upper bound on the frame length in the Time Division Multi-Allocation (TDMA) used for transmission scheduling in the sensor network. The main result of the present paper shows that the chromatic number of G is linear in ω(G) and is at most 13ω(G), where ω(G) is the independence number of G. We also present an efficient algorithm to find a coloring corresponding to the upper bound.

On sum coloring and sum multi-coloring for restricted families of graphs

We consider the sum coloring (chromatic sum) and sum multi-coloring problems for restricted families of graphs. In particular, we consider the graph classes of proper intersection graphs of axis-parallel rectangles, proper interval graphs, and unit disk graphs. All the above mentioned graph classes belong to a more general graph class of (k+1)clawfree graphs (respectively, for k = 4, 2, 5). We ...

Approximation Algorithms for Maximum Independent Set Problems and Fractional Coloring Problems on Unit Disk Graphs

Unit disk graphs are the intersection graphs of equal sized circles in the plane. In this paper, we consider the maximum independent set problems on unit disk graphs. When the given unit disk graph is de ned on a slab whose width is k, we propose an algorithm for nding a maximum independent set in O(n 4 d 2k= p 3 e ) time where n denotes the number of vertices. We also propose a (1 1=r)-approxi...

Approximation algorithms for finding and partitioning unit-disk graphs into co-k-plexes

This article studies a degree-bounded generalization of independent sets called co-k-plexes. Constant factor approximation algorithms are developed for the maximum co-k-plex problem on unit-disk graphs. The related problem of minimum co-k-plex coloring that generalizes classical vertex coloring is also studied in the context of unit-disk graphs. We extend several classical approximation results...

-λ coloring of graphs and Conjecture Δ ^ 2

For a given graph G, the square of G, denoted by G2, is a graph with the vertex set V(G) such that two vertices are adjacent if and only if the distance of these vertices in G is at most two. A graph G is called squared if there exists some graph H such that G= H2. A function f:V(G) {0,1,2…, k} is called a coloring of G if for every pair of vertices x,yV(G) with d(x,y)=1 we have |f(x)-f(y)|2 an...

A Tight Bound for Online Coloring of Disk Graphs

We present an improved upper bound on the competitiveness of the online coloring algorithm First-Fit in disk graphs, which are graphs representing overlaps of disks on the plane. We also show that this bound is best possible for deterministic online coloring algorithms that do not use the disk representation of the input graph. We also present a related new lower bound for unit disk graphs.
